Procrastinate "Here & Now"

Spent the afternoon watching Ellen Degeneres' stand-up show: Here and Now.

I'm telling you, it really is stand-up comedy at its best. Her scenarios are damn funny and TRUE. Always thought she was great - you just have to watch it to find out =)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMonHyxnztI&NR=1 <- This is Part 7 (final) of Here and Now and in my opinion, the funniest part.

For all the vids, it can all be found here: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ellen+degeneres+here+and+now.

You can choose to ignore the show's "message" but you can't help but agree a bit to it.

Our lives now are too hectic and fast ... it helps if there's just a little procrastination ;)

Take care, peeps!

Surrounded by Uni-Talk

Had a hilarious time at PLC on friday with my unit (doing sai-gang) - particularly with samuel and bernard. All the jokes we made about 'keiffeny', 'pte rihanna', 'good hair gone bad' and 'hips don't lie' were insane, but they got us through the mundane sai-gang.

On Saturday morning I had my first experience as a tutor. I am currently teaching my p2 cousin english maths and chinese. quite fun to revisit the pri sch syllabus but yes, it is a rather stressful responsibility.

In the afternoon baoyuan, zirong, weilong, tess, vivien, jiamin, yoketeng and jinghang came by for a mini gathering. We celebrated by and jm's belated bdays with two mooncakes (below).

The following is a (crappy =p) montage of Tess and Yoketeng posing with the (poor) ikea heart pillow.

We played mahjong and watched the Prestige. It always proves to be an intriguing film, as it was for lamerz. The girls were happily launching themselves into talks about uni life, hall life, and yt can't stop reminding me how stressful uni life is.

I told her if she'd rather go for 6days field camp or ten pages of tutorial. She said she'd choose neither.

It's really fun to be hanging out with everyone again. Even though we didn't go out (speaking of which i still haven't caught ratatouille!!) it was very wen1 xin1, haha.

That photo is great! With audrey hepburn watching over us =x

Going for signals course next week liao. Slack-mont camp. Lol, tt's what i hear about it. Hope the food is not as bad as they say. Won't get to come home so often =(

Oh well, still happy today =))
Take care, peeps!

Blindfolded.

Okay, so the "surprise" celebration mentioned in my previous post is revealed. Me, fungi, peijun and serkun met up @ admiralty station to surprise szern at her house. It's a belated thingy we've put on hold since 6th Aug, haha.

Anw, it was a failed attempt to ask serkun to "lure" szern downstairs (sounds wrong??) so we can surprise her. Thus, we went straight up to her house.

We waited for her to change and when we led her down, we blindfolded her =P

We first led her to the busstop, in a move to confuse her (because our final destination is the very-duh-Causeway Point). At the busstop we took some really dumb photos of her posing. Szern was spontaneous enough to play along =P

Haha, oh man szern I think you really need to throw away that shirt =x

Brought her to the MRT to take one-stop to Woodlands. It was so obvious it's not funny. But really quite paiseh 'cos everyone at the station was staring.

Saw Aiman and that flautist (i forgot her name) on the escalator down. Later on MSN he was quite interested to learn about the predicament of my blindfolded friend.

Finally, she was "unfolded" @ Pasta Mania. Zhiwei joined us and all 6 of us had dinner till 10+. Sat around and crapped. I like creamy chicken. I agree it gets a bit jelat (is this how you spell it?) after awhile but oh well, it's a guilty pleasure for me =x

And ta-dah! This is the card I did for szern. It's an apartment-style card (The Lamerz, inc Loft) with windows representing each member of lamerz inc. Can you guess who is who w/o looking at the names? =P

And finally, on saturday, my family celebrated our grandma's 74th Birthday. Yup, the following is a very rare picture whereby (nearly) all her grandchildren are present. Quite a funny but ultimately precious snapshot in time =)

Went to Kbox with wenjie again on sunday. Had some disastrous recordings together. Shall not mention much Haha.

Anw, bought this shirt from Bossini after szern's celebration. Must thank her sister (hui en) for her Popular card 'cause I got an additional 15% off, bringing the cost of the (nice) shirt to $16.15. Yay. Good deal. It says "Music is my religion" on it. Quite cool.

Talking about shirts: when I was going home that night, I realised there was a girl who was staring at me outside Northpoint's McDonald's. It was not long after I realised that she was wearing the same shirt as me (World Without Strangers MEN's shirt from Giordano). I hastily vanished into a cab.

Oh well, next week I have no armskote course. Sad. Can't stay-out. =P

Take care, peeps! (especially to zhiwen's dad and sis)

Oh, Britney!

Wanna wish my dad a HAPPY 49TH BIRTHDAY! Yup, his official birthday is today.

Yay, took one day leave tomorrow.

Having some secret birthday celebration for someone tmr. Shh. I hope the person doesn't know. It's a surprise. Those whose birthdays are somewhere around Sept, watch out. It could be anyone, though. So don't have too high hopes. Hahaha =P

Anyway, just some random blah blah:

Did you catch Britney Spear's wince-inducing performance on YouTube?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VkV04iCZ4c
Yes, the one where she daringly wore a two-piece bikini and lip-synched on-stage to her latest single, Gimme More. It was so embarrassing 'cos she's not exactly pleasantly slim like before.. even rapper 50 cent was caught on camera wincing in the audience.

But oh well, I actually do feel sorry for her. She's trying her best. Her latest single is quite catchy at best ... let's hope her comeback is not as disastrous as her performance =x

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iL5pgIFoFJa0eqpAtju6U57n5ciQ <- Read this for an all-rounded view on Britney's much-talked-about performance @ VMA2007

And to Fungi ... I think i'll start by tutoring my cousin first. That young little boy who lives next door.. then slowly start with primary school students too. Haha, I hope I don't have to vomit blood. =X

Take care, peeps! And have a fun weekend =)

The Bunny Suicides!

okays, back to official blogging again. The previous entry was kinda emo ... it was late at night ... sometimes such feelings tend to surface =x =P

onto something happier. To view the next paragraph (the blank space below), please HIGHLIGHT it.
I got SILVER for my IPPT! Yay, which means I have one hundred bucks more in my bank. If you’re wondering why all this is blanked-out… it’s because my unit has warned us not to blog about army anymore due to “security reasons”. So there you go. Treat this paragraph like a mistake I must erase. =P

went to play mahjong again @ zw's house with sk and fungi. lost $5.50 =( big winner was zw. Must earn back next wk!! lol.
but before that me and family went to TIMES BOOKFAIR @ EXPO. (i always seem to go to such "sales" hor? What to do ... Singaporean mah.. =P)

Bought for myself two books. Dad got for me one book.
The first one is The Bunny Suicides (below)! It's a (sadistically) hilarious comic book about a cute white bunny who tries his best to kill himself in all sorts of situations. For e.g. the cover of the book shows him hiding among a group of pins while a bowling ball rushes towards it at full-speed. And the other picture is a sample from the book. The picture speaks for itself.

Strike! (oops..)

You can't play this 'disc' =x (Copyright Return of the Bunny Suicides, 2004, Andy Riley)

Another book I bought is the New York Times Bestseller Shopgirl by Steve Martin (yes, it's the Father of the Bride comedian). Supposed to be funny .. haven't read yet. Shall tell you guys about it. Besides, i bought it for only $3. Hee.

Dad got for me this book on digital photography. Should come in handy with my new digicam =)

Steve Martin is a good comedian. Hope he's a funny writer, too.

Hope that after this, I have 500 more ways to show you better photos =)

Celebrated dad's bday on sunday. Went to Long Beach @ East Coast Park to makan. I paid for the lunch. Whoaa, $200 just like that. But wilfred decided to fork out $50. So ya, first time both brothers paid for an expensive lunch. hee. Felt quite "grown-up" signing the receipt with my Master Card. Even received their Long Beach membership card. Next time go there eat got 10% discount. Hur hur (o.O)

Went to cycle at ECP after that. Now back home waiting for dinner. High School Musical 2 Asian premiere on Disney Channel at 1930 later. Shall be watching with bro. Haha.

Decided over lunch, too, that I should go teach tuition. Mum said I could try to start from our estate. She said demand quite high. Shall give out flyers like what she did with her home (beauty room) business. Happy to see that her customers are coming more often. She's finally doing something she's passionate about.

And finally, condolences to two ppl:
The 10-year-old boy who drowned at Palm Gardens swimming pool. That was where I stayed. Quite fortunate that it's not someone my brother knew ... but still, felt a little sad. He was so young.
And secondly to my army buddy's grandma. May she Rest in peace.

Take good care, peeps.

everything in its time

sometimes ... recently, actually, I've been wondering what I should be doing with my life now. besides army.

learn driving? can't really guarantee I'll be free on wkends. pick-up a skill? maybe ... but don't know what.
there are some other things that are bugging me also ...

it is usually at these times that i feel kind of lost ... don't really like the feeling of uncertainty.

but ... that is life, isn't it? you don't know what'll get ... but you sort of make the best out of it.

... EVERYTHING IN ITS TIME ...

its a song by local singer Corinne May, from her second album Safe in a Crazy World. The lyrics say just what i'm feeling right now.. Read it .. its extremely meaningful ..
(if only i can play it for you now)

Sometimes I wonder what lies ahead
How long till my hunger is fed?
They say it's hard to make it in this part of town
So many people on this merry-go-round
Some folks try astrology, some turn to crystal balls
To find an answer to get through it all
I just fall on my knees and I try to pray
In the silence I can hear Him say ...

The river runs and the river hides
Out to the ocean and under the sky
I promise you, the answer will come
Hold on to patience and watch for the sign
Everything in its time

I often feel like I'm two steps behind
Somebody must have moved that finish line
There are a thousand reasons why I should give up
But I'm stubborn in the things I believe

The river runs and the river hides
Out to the ocean and under the sky
I promise you, the answer will come
Hold on to patience and watch for the sign

'Cause maybe there's another plan, one I still can't see
A little surprise, like your love in my life
Funny how time changes how we see ...

The river runs and the river hides
Out to the ocean and under the sky
I promise you, the answer will come
Hold on to patience and watch for the sign
Everything in its time

You Can't Stop The Beat!

As you can tell, I still haven't got enough of Hairspray the movie. On Tuesday night I went to watch it again. This time with my mom and bro. They enjoyed the movie too. And I bought the soundtrack straight after that. Shall review it at the end of this post, to prevent anymore Hairspray overload =P

The biggest thing to probably happen to me this weekend is this:
I FINALLY GOT MYSELF A DIGI-CAM !!
With my own money somemore lor. Got it at the COMEX IT SHOW with zirong & weilong. You know how I always look out for deals. This Nikon Coolpix L11 has got 3x optical zoom, 6.0 Megapixels, and comes with all the handy features you'd expect from a normal digicam.

But what's BEST is the fact that I got so many free gifts along the way! The camera costs $250 but it comes with free gifts worth $138. There's a free 2GB SD card, tripod stand, case, LCD screen protector, screen cleaner and a Nikon umbrella! That's the reason why I get my stuff at IT shows. You can the best deals in town!

Okay, now i'm sounding sibeh kiasu. But that's what you'd do if you want value for money. Hee.

Here are some sample pics from my new camera:

Yup, that's my cam. Took it in the mirror.

(From right) Wei Long, Zi Rong and me @ Anderson's ice cream (sorry if my face looks retardedly big)

NTU Band's Mnemonic concert. Went on Saturday night. I like their sound. I like this shot =)

I call this my 5 dollars mouse. It only worths 5bucks! Bought it at COMEX at a steal man. Hope it lasts, though =S

Yup, me happy. Camera turns out fine. And now, for my short review of Hairspray the Soundtrack.

I give the soundtrack W o o o o W (4.0/5)

Seriously, You can't stop the beat!
This soundtrack is as infectious as the movie itself and who knows how many times I've listened to it on my mp3 player already. On the bus, on the MRT ... everywhere.

The songs are sung by the very actors in the movie and all are incredibly talented.

1) Good Morning Baltimore - it's uplifting and happy
2) The Nicest Kids in Town - who knew Cyclops from XMEN could sing so well?
3) It Takes Two - slow and romantic
4) (The Legend of) Miss Baltimore Crabs
